Dog Licenses

The State of Vermont requires that all dogs or wolf-dog hybrids six months of age or older be annually licensed with the Town Clerk by April 1st. A current rabies certificate must be presented or on file in the Town Clerk’s Office before a license may be issued. Licenses are available each year as of Jan 2nd. The fee to register a spayed or neutered-dog in Middlebury is $14 and the fee if the animal is not spayed or neutered is $18. After April 1st a small late charge will be assessed.

To renew your dog's license either mail the renewal form you received from the Clerk's Office with a check made out to the Town of Middlebury for the appropriate fees, and a copy of the current rabies certificate if needed to update our records to: Town Clerk, 77 Main Street, Middlebury VT 05753 or use the Town Clerk's drop box outside the Town Office door closest to the Library. Please make any corrections on the notice before submitting to our office. Drop off applications at the Town Clerk's Office at 77 Main Street, Monday through Thursday, 8am to 5pm.

If you are registering a new dog, we need a copy of current rabies vaccination certificate, the owners name and address, dogs name, sex, age, breed and spayed/neutered status. Please provide a phone number and email address in case we need to contact you prior to issuing the license.

Applicants appearing in person at the office will receive tags in person. All others will be mailed.
