Public Health Services

As established by State law, each town and city in Vermont has a Town Health Officer, who serves as a local responder to a wide variety of public health issues that may take place in each community. Responsibilities of the Town Health Officer

- Investigating possible public health hazard and risks within the town
- Taking action as required to prevent or remove any public health hazards
- Taking action to lessen significant public health risks
- Enforcing health laws, rules and permit conditions, and taking steps to enforce those orders

Examples of common issues raised by the public and investigated/acted upon by the Town Health Officer include: animal bites/contacts & rental property health
complaints.
