- Local Businesses Seeking State Licenses Supported by Selectboard
Applications from the Middlebury Inn, Rosie’s Restaurant, Shiretown Marketplace, and the Waybury Inn for various state alcohol, tobacco, hotel, and other related licenses were supported by the Selectboard.
 
- Appointments Made To Town Boards, Commissions, & Other Official Positions
The Selectboard appointed 20 individuals to 26 non-contested positions on a variety of Town Boards, Committees, Commissions, and other Official positions, as well as to regional boards. For the one contested position as a Means Woods Trustee, the Selectboard made the appointment of Robert Wheland.
 
- Selectboard Supports Initial Scoping Study for Transportation Redesigns at Route 7/Exchange Street Intersection
The Selectboard supported the initial preferred alternatives presented by State of Vermont Agency of Transportation officials in the Scoping Study to improve the intersection of Route 7/Exchange Street/Happy Valley Road. The alternatives presented would include the introduction of a traffic circle at that intersection as well as improvements to the Route 7 corridor south to High Street. The project will now proceed to the design phase.
 
- Out-of-Town Request for Water Connection Approved, Further Review of Existing Policy to Occur
The Selectboard approved the request from a property owner on Sheep Farm Road in Weybridge to have a proposed new house on their property connected to the Town of Middlebury’s water system. Additionally, the Board supported further review and updating of the Town’s current tap-on water policy, to be reviewed at a future meeting.
 
- Updates Provided on Town’s Asset Management Planning for Town Water System
Public Works staff provided a brief update to the Selectboard on the ongoing asset management initiative that the department is undertaking with Aldrich & Elliott, as well as the likely leading priorities that the Town’s water system will face in the future.
 
- Updated Town Emergency Management Plan Approved & Emergency Management Director Appointed
The Selectboard approved the 2024 updated version of the State-required Middlebury Emergency Management Plan, and appointed Police Chief Jason Covey as the Town’s Emergency Management Director.
 
- Town to Seek Heightened Notice re Pending Permit for Hydropower Facility at Middlebury Falls
Following the recent preliminary application by the New England Hydropower Company with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to pursue the feasibility of constructing a hydropower facility at the Middlebury Falls, the Selectboard authorized the Town Manager to submit a Motion to Intervene with FERC to ensure the Town is a party to all related FERC proceedings.
 
- Approval of Check Warrants
The Selectboard approved expenditures, for the time period of April 10, 2024 to April 23, 2024, in the amount of $768,316.89.
